It goes without saying that we love all things coffee! That’s why we’ve decided to share some facts about it.

Of all the countries in the world, it has been found that the Netherlands consume the most coffee per capita.

A 2020 study stated that the Netherlands take the crown for highest coffee consumption per capita at an astonishing 8.3 kilograms!

Finland and Sweden ranked at 7.8 and 7.6 respectively in the list of countries with the highest coffee consumption. Unfortunately, UK didn't make it to the top 15 even after all our hard work!

Many people don't realize this, but the humble coffee bean is not a type of bean as its name might suggest, but rather a seed.

The coffee bean is not found in the cherry, but rather inside it. During the harvesting process, the bean is removed from its host fruit and prepared for consumption.

Dubbed 'beans' due to their shape and size, one of these can, when provided with optimal conditions, sprout into a complete new coffee plant. These seeds are now commonly seen and used in the world of coffee.

Believe it or not, there is a type of coffee made from animal feces. This unusual beverage is actually surprisingly tasty and appreciated for its unique flavor.

We understand if this sounds a bit strange but please give it a chance!

Kopi Luwak, a type of coffee originating in Indonesia, is gaining immense popularity worldwide. It is made with the help of the cute palm civet cats who eat coffee cherries and pass the beans out of their system.

A distinctive flavor and smooth texture is attributed to the unique fermentation process that beans go through while passing through a civet's digestive tract. This endows the final brew with an exceptional taste.

Kopi Luwak is an extremely unique and expensive way of making coffee. At over £400 per kg, it's one of the most expensive varieties in the world right now.

Coffee is believed to have originated from the Arabic word “qahwah” which means “to energize/invigorate.” The term eventually spread out to other languages and was adapted into its modern form, "coffee".

The word for coffee originated in the Ottoman Empire; the term "kahve" was used, which was followed by the Dutch "koffie". From this source, English adopted its name of coffee in 1582.

Many people are unclear about the differences between espresso and expresso due to their similar names. However, these drinks have distinct characteristics which differentiate them from one another, making it easy to understand why they often get confused.

Coffee lovers have been debating for a long time about the correct pronunciation of 'espresso'. Surprisingly, those who pronounce it as “expresso” are not entirely wrong either.

The word 'espresso' is derived from the Italian term “expressed” or “pressed out”, referring to the process through which it's made. Hot water is pressed under high pressure through fine-ground coffee beans to produce an espresso shot. Although it's correctly pronounced as ES-presso, some people still pronounce it in other ways due to its origin.

On 15th June 2019, history was created when the world’s largest cup of coffee was brewed measuring 22,739.14 litres. This remarkable feat was recorded by Guinness World Records and will always remain in our hearts and minds.

The intricate cup was an ambitious project undertaken by Alcaldía Municipal de Chinchiná (Colombia) in Parque de Bolívar, Chinchiná, Caldas, Colombia. It took more than a month and fifty people to bring this creative endeavor to life.

Attempts have been made to ban coffee in the past, but these efforts have proven unsuccessful in the long run. Despite its potential health risks, coffee continues to remain an integral part of our daily lives.

Since its emergence, many organizations around the globe have tried to put a ban on our beloved beverage. This was particularly prominent in the early stages of its existence.

Typically, people hung around coffee shops because of the energy they got from their caffeine fix or the interesting conversations they could have with other patrons. Coffee Houses were historically known for being a place of discourse, particularly in Mecca in 1511, where it was feared that the unifying power of coffee could bring together conflicting parties.

Coffee consumption has been on the rise across the globe and it has become one of the most popular drinks in the world.

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, ranking among tea and water. Each year, billions of cups are gulped down with an approximate figure being around 400 billion annually.

Britain's coffee consumption stands at an astounding 2.8 kilos per person annually, resulting in over £1 billion of expenditure on it last year.

A goat herder is believed to have been the first one to stumble upon coffee, changing the way we drink it today.

Many centuries ago, it is said that a shepherd in Ethiopia stumbled across coffee when his goats began to display peculiar behavior. This legend has become entrenched in the annals of history and is still very much alive today.

One day, he noticed that the people around him had increased energy levels after eating coffee cherries, and couldn't sleep at night. He then informed the local monks of his discovery and they started brewing drinks from its beans. As time passed by, this drink eventually became known as coffee, becoming one of the most popular beverages in the world today.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that coffee may have a positive health impact. With its rich source of antioxidants, it is becoming more and more recognized as one of the healthiest drinks around. It can even help you live longer!

Coffee, when consumed as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle, can certainly contribute to a longer and happier life. Although adding cream, sugar or syrup to it may undermine its health benefits.
